SCAM ALERT

Scams involving pets and other online animal sales are on the rise. In some cases, the ATA logo is being used illegally so please be cautious.

Remember that while the ATA is an association of professional animal transporters, we do not ship animals ourselves. In fact, there are no legitimate animal transport companies with ATA in their name.

The best way to avoid getting scammed is to stay informed and alert. The seller is likely not genuine if:

  • Payment is required by money transfer (such as Western Union or MoneyGram), gift card or prepaid debit card
  • The shipment is continually held up by demands for additional funds to cover insurance, pet food, veterinary care or a special crate.
