ATA Migrations - December 2021

The ATA 2022 Conference is now virtual - Click here for conference details

MESSAGE FROM THE ATA PRESIDENT

Greetings ATA members!

Do you believe in Santa Claus? Don’t tell anybody but when I was growing up in Mexico City my suppliers of stuff were the three-wise men! Santa was not as much big of a deal as he is today. Marketing, I guess has truly come through for Santa, even for those who do not practice Christian religion.

One thing I noticed about the common image about the three wise men is that they are often depicted as riding camels. Times have changed and the image of these three kings has been greatly simplified! My childhood recollection says each used a different mode of transportation: Melchior came from Europe, so he rode a horse; Caspar came from Arabia and rode a camel; and Balthazar came from Africa and rode an elephant! The point here is that they all must have been members of ATA because they used the best mode of transportation they had available in their region at that time! Santa must have been around sometime after the three wise men because evidently, he flies and uses a much more modern mode of transportation: the flying reindeer! And an assembly of multiple reindeer for more power. I wonder, who came first Santa or the Wright brothers…? And also, did Santa domesticate the caribou? And was him who later coined the name reindeer once caribou got domesticated? Hmm…

Anyways, I hope you do not mind a little bit of humor, but in more serious note on behalf of the members of the board of directors and our executive director, I want to wish every one of you and your loved ones a very happy, yet tranquil holidays, whether this is Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa (or my birthday but that comes in the spring). The businesses we all work in, involving live animals with their special care needs and the vicissitudes proper of the different modes of transportation (do not get me started on this!) carry plenty of action and excitement throughout the year so let’s all wish for peace and tranquility this coming end-of-year celebrations.

Here is to a better 2022 full of professional opportunities and personal achievements, with plenty of happiness overall to top it all off. We hope to see you all in person in the near future.

Please stay safe and keep doing what you do. Our animals need you!
