"Promoting Best Practices in Responsible Animal Transport"

Join AATA in Sydney, Australia
on May 10-13, 2009 at the beautiful Sydney Harbour Marriott Hotel
in Circular Quay.

The goal for AATA's 35th international conference is to continue building on its reputation to serve as a resource for those concerned with the humane handling and transportation of animals around the world.

Animal welfare during transportation is an issue that has gained more visibility over the last few years and we are now seeing governments, industry groups and the private sector place more emphasis on this issue . . . an issue that AATA has long recognized as paramount when transporting all types of animals. This year's conference will look at what the industry is doing worldwide to improve animal welfare during transport.  We will hear from government representatives and industry leaders as they explain how they are making a difference in the welfare of animals while being transported.

There are a number of topics that can affect us all. See how the OIE guidelines are setting the standard for risk management of disease worldwide.  Find out how climate changes can affect animals which in turn affects those countries where animals can be shipped to and from.

Animals going by ship?  Don't set sail until you hear about the future of long and short haul ocean shipping.

Are your animals traveling by air? They may not hand out a bag of peanuts and a cold drink but, find out what one airline is doing to enhance animal welfare during transit. Of course you will also want to hear about the new belly hold ventilation software program and new crate design for aircraft.

Hauling animals by road? Look at the guidelines published by TruckCare and the accreditation program for haulers that the Australians have implemented.  Hear how the current EU guidelines are affect animals being transported by road in the EU.  And, don't miss the research results to be presented on time on trucks and equine trailering.

Regardless of the type of animals you handle, the Wednesday morning session will cover the challenges of shipping into the Anzac Region.  It will feature problems faced when importing into Australia and New Zealand and will provide the opportunity for these problems to be presented to the government representatives present.

For those involved in livestock transport, plan to travel to Australia early and attend Australia's National Beef Exposition in Rockhampton, QLD from May 4-9, 2009.  See http://www.beefaustralia.com.au/ for details.

For those involved with transport of companion animals, a one day workshop on Saturday, May 9, will be hosted by IPATA (The Independent Pet and Animal Transportation Association International, Inc.).  This will provide the opportunity for IPATA members from around the world who will be attending AATA's conference to also have the opportunity to learn more about pet shipping in Australia and New Zealand and to meet local pet shippers in the Anzac region.

Don't for a minute think you will travel to Sydney without being able to see some of the highlights of the area. Perhaps a trip to the Blue Mountains or the famous Hunter Valley wine country.  The conference program includes an optional Sydney Harbour Starlight Dinner Cruise on Saturday evening, an optional Fun-Nite-Out in The Rocks on Monday evening and, as part of your registration package, dinner at the Sydney Opera House on Tuesday evening.  In addition, several options tours are being suggested - offering something for everyone.

There are places to shop, beaches to see and of course restaurants which will suit everyone's palette. As always, we will have time to network . . . to catch up with those you know and become acquainted with new members.

Mark your calendar because there is a Koala waiting to have his photo taken with you!

 See you in Sydney!
